The Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL) is a standardized test supervised by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. The test has six levels (Elementary, Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Proficiency, Fluency) conforming to the classifications of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
At Ural Federal University, you can take the exam at the five main levels:
Achieving the Basic level of proficiency allows you to carry out daily communication with native speakers and manage everyday life situations. The certificate of this level will allow you to grow in your professional area and give you the chance to participate in cultural life. In addition, it gives you an opportunity to receive the Russian citizenship.
Estimated cost of testing (as of 2015): RUB 6,000.
Owning the TORFL I certificate, you will be able to not only fulfill daily needs in life and communication, but also engage more actively in socio-cultural life. This certificate opens up great opportunities; most importantly, it allows you to study at Russian higher educational institutions.

The TORFL II certificate will confirm your high level of language proficiency, competence in the field of language itself, as well as socio-cultural awareness. Having obtained this level of Russian, upon graduation you will be able to enroll on a Bachelor or Master course in humanities, natural sciences, or engineering.
Estimated cost of testing (as of 2015): RUB 6,300.
Having received the TORFL III certificate, you can work with a certified linguist, journalist, diplomat, or translator.
Estimated cost of testing (as of 2015): RUB 6,500.

The TORFL IV certificate is as close as you can get to a native speaker. You are able to teach in Russian universities in philological faculty and to improve your level.
Estimated cost of testing (as of 2015): 6 500 rubles.
After passing the test, you will receive a state certificate.
The tests are usually held in early January and early June.
An organizational meeting is normally held three weeks before each test, where you can register and learn all the information about the testing process.
The next testing is in January, 2017.
