More than 100 students participated in the online conference
On September 14, Preparatory Department for Foreign Students of UrFU conducted welcoming meetings for the first groups of students of the 2020-2021 academic year. The first meeting was organized for enrolled students who are going to start their Russian classes this week, and the second meeting was organized for prospective students who are planning to study Russian language at UrFU. We remind, that application deadline for the current academic year at Preparatory Department is November 1.
These events were held in a familiar but yet not usual online format. Nevertheless, the staff of the Preparatory Department tried to create the most solemn and friendly atmosphere so that the beginning of the new academic year online would not differ from the traditional welcoming.
Nearly 100 of students from different countries such as China, Mongolia, Iran, Afghanistan, Italy and Latin America attended these meetings.
Manager of the Department of International Educational Programs Svetlana Kurbatova opened the meeting with official speech and on behalf of UrFU greeted freshmen of Preparatory Department.
The Depity Director Maria Mukoseeva in her speech told students about success of UrFU, its international ranking and academic achievements and emphasized that stidents of Preparatory Deparrtment are also a part of UrFU now.
“Our University has got many international students and after finishing your foundation year you may pursue your Bachelor or Masters degree at UrFU”, added Maria Mukoseeva.
In addition, she told students about distant learning and how this process will be organized this year.
Specialist of Preparatory Department Ekaterina Fedorova informed students about study process, number of academic hours and type of lessons, she explained how to use educational platform MOODLE for distant classes and mentioned some basic technical requirements for online learning.
Manager Mikhail Kopyrin shared the most important and desired information with students about the arrival to Russia. The largest number of questions from students were related precisely to visa issues, insurance, estimated time of the arrival to Russia and registration matters.
The University specialists answered all students` questions in the end of the meeting and indicated necessary contacts of Preparatory Department. The recording of the meetings is available on YouTube-channel of the department.
The meetings were very warm and friendly, with mutual pleasant words and wishes. It is possible that this format of meetings is less formal and more useful, because students asked questions and immediately received answers and it gave an opportunity to meet and greet the staff before the arrival. Students and members of the Department are ready and looking forward to productive work in the new academic year.
